Boone's Big Alaska Adventure
Hi, it's me - Boone, the Adventure Dog. Five and a half pounds of pure personality, stuffed into a van with my humans. Mom says, "Get in the Van," and next thing I know, we're off to who knows where.....
Do I like the van? Hmm...maybe? Not sure, Feels like a roller coaster - up, down, up, down, - and just when I'm about to doze off, Dad finds a pothole the size of a small pond. They wonder why I'm not a "good sleeper" during the day. Uh, hello? Dogs are supposed to get 18 hours. I'm running on three.
But...I have to admit, we've stayed at some cool spots. Two nights ago we camped by a river with a family of ducks. They floated juuust out of reach - taunting me. They know I'm not a big swimmer. Then Mom and Dad went to some hot spring pools (no dogs allowed, rude). They came back all happy and 'relaxed," and I got to play in the parking lot while they made breakfast. Fair trade? I guess.
We go on plenty of hikes, and I love to run around, but I have to stay on the leash - much to my chagrin. I'd rather run wild, but Mom keeps talking about "big bears" and "Eagles" out here in Alaska, so...leash it is. My absolute favorite time, though, is when we go for a bike ride. I get to ride in my special backpack, perched on Mom's back, looking over her shoulder as we race down the road. Wind in my fur, bugs in my teeth - the good kind. It doesn't get any better than that. It's a dogs life!
We also went to the North Pole. Yep, the North Pole. Well, really it was just North Pole, Alaska, but still it was pretty cool. Dad got to go see Santa's reindeer, but Mom kept me back. Something about "not scaring Santa's reindeer" so I still get treats at Christmas. Smart woman.
On the way to Delta Junction, we passed an Air Force base - planes roaring overhead all night. Pretty sure they were protecting us. From what? No idea. Probably squirrels... they are pretty big here in Alaska.
Tonight, we're at Deadman Lake. Seriously, who names these places? First Deadman Lake, next stop Destruction Bay. Humans are weird. Still...it's peaceful here. The water's clear, the air's crisp, and I'm curled up on my pillow between Mom and Dad.
Worst road ahead is tomorrow? Bring it on. I may be tiny, but I'm mighty.
Until next time - Boone, The Adventure Dog, signing off.
P.S. - if this trip gets any bumpier, I'm demanding my own shock absorbers
